Welcome Home Stella

Today was the day we have been waiting for. The day that Stella comes home to us. After the passion of love at first sight a few days ago you can understand the angst we felt in waiting for her arrival.

This afternoon, her carriage (actually a big white delivery truck) arrived at our door. Two handsome Hispanic gentlemen whisked her across our threshold and set her down ever so gently. She was just as beautiful as the first day we laid eyes on her. Oh how distance makes the heart grow fonder....

She is truly magnificent. Today, I discovered even more about her as we spent our first moments alone together. When her door is open for longer than a minute or so, she tells me gently with the sound of a little beep. It's as if she is whispering softly in my ear "Please, if you love me and cherish my contents, shut my door...." I mean she could just as easily have said "SHUT THE DOOR YOU MORON! What, are you trying to cool off the entire house! Cripes! The Electric company called us, they said to we are draining their production!" That was what my father would say, at least... but not our Stella. She has class.

Stella is now a part of our family and we know that it's a match made in heaven. Hopefully the boys treat her well. I'm sure it will be a challenge for her but I'll never leave her side. She can count on me.

Her is our girl... in all her glory...

And here I am with Stella enjoying a cool embrace...

Note: We have a very old house as I have mentioned umpteen times. The kitchen is a work in progress and not like your standard kitchen. So it probably looks very different to most of you. There are only cabinets along one short wall... the rest is just vacant space open to interpretation and whatever I want to put there!

Note2: Yes, I have noticed that I have a certain fixation and love affair with appliances. No. I'm not ill. I truly do love Stella, my DDoH (Dell Desktop of Happiness) and my new vacuum. You just appreciate the new stuff more when you have had to deal with the crap machines that they replaced.

  • cool fridge - how old's the house?

  • Keith our house is over 112 years old. It was built around the mid 1890's.

  • I love that it is already covered in magnets! Our fridge is from 1986 - I was about nine when my parents bought it, and now it has been lovingly passed down...

I know someday it will break and I will get a new one (FUN!), but for now that cost scares the crap out of me - so I give it a little pep-talk every time I shut it.

  • it's so beautiful and shiny; my frige is ever so jealous of Stella.

  • WG - It's only covered in magnets because our old fridge was covered in magnets. Notice I refused to put them on the front and hubs isn't happy. Too bad. Stella is too pretty to hide behind magnets. So, they adorn the side... that's it!

Chad - 150 is OLD! DAYUM! It's a wonder our homes are still standing. And yes, it's already covered... not my choice.

Mr. Fab - how do I say this without hurting your feelings... um... HEEEELLLLLLLL NO! There.. Oh and Stella is a one family woman.

Terri - They should all be jealous.. every last one of them. Stella is the Heidi Klume of refrigerators. Oh yeah...

  • I want a Stella!! My fridge is an OLD hand-me-down from Sears (probably from back when it was still called Sears & Roebuck). The rubber seals came apart recently and I had to glue them back! So sad!

By the way, my kitchen it teeny and I have very little cabinetry on the bottom and NONE on the top so what I did one weekend is take a trip to Home Depot. I got 3 long pieces of wood (for shelving) and 9 wooden shelf holders (3 for each shelf). I painted everything white and in just a couple of hours I had a wall of shelves on which I placed my glasses and cobalt blue glass collection. It was an awesomely inexpensive ($50 for EVERYTHING!) and an EASY 1-day project that I did all by myself! Let me know if you want to see some pics - it's so easy and ideal for a small kitchen that is top cabinet challenged!
