Day 10 of the cicada invasion (updated with pictures)
"Hey buddy! Guess what?! Do you know where we are going today?" I asked him in my excited, sing-songy, mama voice.
He replies, in an inquisitive tone, "Wal-Mart?"
Luckily I was standing in the bathroom because I damn near peed my pants.
That appears to be a tell-tale sign that we spend way too much time and money at "Lucipher's Den".
After I composed myself I said, "No buddy, we are going to the zoo! We are going to see lots of animals!"
That is when I got to thinking... zoo, trees, animals, undisturbed ground... ruh-roh... CICADAS!!!!!!
See, we still don't have a single cicada in my neighborhood. Tomorrow is June 1st and that is supposed to be basically the last day of their emergence. There are towns right around here, including my MIL's two miles away, that are covered in cicadas. But not us. A miracle, maybe? HELL YES IT'S A MIRACLE!
However, I figured I was headed right into the grips of the cicadas by going to the zoo. As soon as I got into the gates I was seeing cicadas... dead, smooshed to bits on the concrete. It was nasty, but they were dead. Then I saw live ones. They were all over the wooden posts, hanging on leaves in the trees, crawling on the ground.
Guess what? I was completely at ease! Another miracle, maybe. Granted, they weren't that bad, as they are in some places around the area, but they were there for sure. I even got up close to one particular wooden post and took pictures of a bunch of the cicadas. I will get those up soon, I hope. They are ugly bugs for sure though. Yuck!
This kids enjoyed the zoo but it was an incredibly hot day. We were all melting and cranky before long. My hair was sweating. By the time we left I was thinking it would have been better had we actually gone to Wal-Mart instead. However, you just can't beat looking at a real, live giraffe. Especially a mama and her baby giraffe.
Tomorrow we are off to Milwaukee for the weekend. I fully expect a fun and happy family weekend. I truly hope all of you had a fabulous Memorial weekend and enjoy a great weekend coming up. Thank you all so much for your comments. I read and love them all!!!
Summertime rawks!
Edited to add the following pictures... muwahahahahahaha!

Look ma! I am one foot away from the creepy bastards and taking their picture! I so brave!

Aren't they cute! Can I get a collective "awwwwwwww"

And, just so I leave you all on a better note, I present to you, a nice view of my big ass. I didn't realize until today that my friend M took this picture of DramaBoy and I. Thanks. I love showing off my mommy-ass. Aside from that, I love this picture.

When we get our invasion....it's mostly in older neighborhoods. Don't get me wrong...we get slammed by them all over and by me being a freaking scardy cat I truly suffer through these invasions but they are heavier in older neighborhoods then newer ones.
In my neighborhood we had a few but in my cousins' neighborhood they where SLAMMED with them! It was awful!
A few years ago was my third time experienceing these wonderful invasions! Dammit I'm moving before the next time!

You should get a commendation for unparalleled bravery in picture posting.
Why? For the cicada pics, of course. Why do you ask?
Seriously - those are some totally nasty looking insects. And they look so real!
